My Career In Fashion
It all started back in 1996 in Sheffield. Whilst at University I got a part time job at Kookai which was a cool French high street brand of the time. I was hooked and knew then the only industry I wanted to work in was fashion.
I spent the next 10 years working in retail and was a store Manager in Leeds, Manchester and London for Oasis, Kookai, Diesel and Office Shoes.
In 2006 after relocating to Nottingham I applied to join the Trainee Buyer scheme at Next and started on the week of my 30th birthday. I was the oldest Graduate Trainee on the block and I loved it. I progressed quickly making Buyer in 20 months on Menswear. Then moved to Women’s jersey as Buyer.
In 2011 I went onto the branded department at Next buying fashion across Men’s and Women’s when it was the smallest division in Next turning over just a few million. When I left it was the 3rd biggest division with the fastest growth.
I worked my way up to Buying & Creation Manager managing a large team of people. I recruited and worked with some of the best brands in the industry. Leading the Buying team to buy over 16,000 options a season. I managed the creative team whom created and shot the 16 Next Directory and Label publications we produced a year. In my latter years in the job I really loved the styling of the photoshoots for the publications.
I am totally in my element in a room with a rail full of clothes and shoes.
My passion in life has always been fashion.
From being a young girl I was always trying on different outfits and loved looking through my Mum’s magazines and catalogues. My strongest memories are getting my first part time job in an Ice Cream parlour at age 13. Saving up my wages which were £1 per hour!! Well it was 1989... I then once a month took the train to Leeds to spend that hard earned cash on clothes. It gave me such a buzz and still does today.
I’ve worked for the past 20 years in the fashion industry as a Buyer and a Retail Manager.
I am also 40 something year old Mum to two gorgeous girls and married to my husband since 2009.
I love music and collect vinyl. Playing records each night as I cook dinner. Mum dancing as I cook!
Back in July 2016 I started my Instagram blog. Originally is was about being a Mum as I was on maternity leave after having my second baby. So the blog reflected my life at the time. Then after going back to work in Jan 2017 I changed it to just be about fashion and My Fashion Forecast was born. I ve loved sharing my passion for fashion and outfits with the Instagram community. I ve connected with some great people along the way.
I have a love for travel and especially to Ibiza where we holiday most years. We got married on the island so for us it’s a very magical place to go.
When I get time to myself I like to go running or do Hot Pod Yoga. Which is very addictive by the way...... Sweating away your troubles in the pod.
